"Too country for the city, too cali for the cowboys, too rowdy for the church, but too good to be an outlaw..."
A little of all them, but not entirely any of them, Kent Houston finds himself “somewhere in between” as an unashamed melting pot of American cultures. A drifting song-bird since birth, he has found inspiration from his birth place in the Rocky Mountains, his family roots in the Virginia countryside, his childhood of musical theatre in the City of Angels, his audio engineering training in the Big Apple, and his current home by the beach in San Diego. He also spent his first few years as an adult wandering around the country from city to city by car, by train, or by foot with his thumb in the air, searching for the thrill of freedom he read about in his favorite Kerouac books.
He puts a unique spin on what it means to be an outlaw with alternative perspectives of how to truly rebel against societal norms while also helping people and making the world a better place. Houston’s guitar tones express blues, folk, and country flavors that lay the foundation for his gritty rock vocal style with influences of Johnny Cash, Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Ryan Bingham, The Black Keys, Elvis, and The Doors.
There's a bit of good in the worst of us and a bit of bad in the best of us...
